Method Of Research

Using the standpoint theory and the theory of groupthink I developed an interview design with questions that pinpoint the female experience vs the male experience when it comes to questioning knowledge. I took a group of 24 men and women, all students from the University of Alabama from various backgrounds, and gave them an interview questionnaire with the same questions for every person. The questions were designed to compare the female and male experience measuring a handful of things. The first round of questions will measure if the person has ever felt discrimination from the opposite gender, and the second round of questions ask if the person has ever felt talked down to or made to feel less intelligent because of their gender. Lastly, the final group of questions will define mansplaining and ask if the person has ever experienced this, without disclosing the word mansplaining.
Interview Questions
-Have you ever felt discriminated against because of your gender? And if so, please explain in detail.
-In the situation in which you felt discriminated against, who was on the other end of the conversation?
-Have you ever felt talked down to or made to feel less intelligent by someone of the opposite gender?
-If so, what was the situation in which this occurred? And how did you react?
-At work or school have you ever felt like you aren’t getting the representation that others of the opposite sex got? If so, please give an example.
-Lastly, have you ever felt like someone has over-explained a simple topic to you because of your gender? - If so, what was the situation and what was the gender of the person?
-Can you define the term Mansplaining?
-Have you ever experienced mansplaining? If so, please explain the situation or situations in which you experienced it. What was your reaction and how did it make you feel?
